Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Review: Is It Worth It for Pour-Over?

The Fellow Stagg EKG Pro makes the most sense for someone who regularly brews pour-over and wants controlled pouring with repeatable water temperatures. Its narrow gooseneck is a brewing tool, not simply a decorative replacement for a family kettle. If your main job is quickly filling a large teapot, choose by that job before buying by appearance.

This research-based buying review uses current Fellow documentation and the linked Amazon listing, checked October 13, 2026. We have not measured heating speed, temperature accuracy, durability, or taste in hands-on testing. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Best for, and who should skip it

Buy it for a coffee station where you enjoy making a manual brew and want to repeat the same water temperature. The controlled pour helps you distribute water deliberately across the coffee bed. It is also useful for a person who switches between coffee and teas with different packet instructions, provided the smaller capacity suits their servings.

Skip it if you want a large-capacity kettle for several people, a wide fast-pouring spout, or the least expensive way to boil water. Someone happy with an existing variable-temperature kettle should identify an actual inconvenience before upgrading. A premium kettle will not fix stale coffee, an unsuitable grind, or a recipe that changes every morning.

What Pro adds to the workflow

Fellow’s current specifications list a 0.9 L capacity and a 40–100°C / 104–212°F selectable temperature range. The US version uses a Type-B plug and 110–120 V supply. Pro includes a color screen, scheduling, a brew stopwatch, and selectable hold durations of 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes. These are manufacturer claims rather than our laboratory measurements. Read the official Stagg EKG specifications and features.

A timer and hold function can simplify a repeatable routine: select your temperature, prepare the dripper while water heats, and use the same recipe each morning. Scheduling is useful only when you can safely prepare the kettle according to its manual beforehand. Do not fill past its maximum line or use a schedule as a substitute for checking that the kettle is ready.

Wi-Fi is for updates, not remote brewing

Do not buy this kettle expecting to control it from your phone. Fellow says its EKG Updater app provides firmware updates and does not currently offer remote control of the kettle or its settings. You can use the kettle’s own controls for normal brewing. This distinction matters because a “Wi-Fi” mention in a retailer title can sound like a connected-home feature that it does not actually provide.

When comparing listings, read the exact model and selected variant. “Stagg” covers multiple products. A stovetop Stagg is different from an electric EKG; standard EKG, EKG Pro, and Pro Studio are different versions too. The link above identifies the Pro product in matte black, while seller availability and selected color can change.

Pro versus Pro Studio

For most buyers, start with Pro and compare the actual current price difference before choosing Studio. The Studio version’s material details may appeal if the appliance’s finish matters to you, but do not assume a more expensive finish guarantees better coffee. Spend on the features you will use, then compare the premium against your remaining grinder and bean budget.

The kettle is not completely plastic-free. Fellow describes stainless steel interiors, a silicone ring around the temperature probe, and plastic in some exterior or lid components. If materials are a deciding factor, use the manufacturer’s component-by-component description rather than an oversimplified marketplace claim. See Fellow’s kettle materials guide.

Use it well for pour-over

Start with one recipe and write down the coffee dose, total water, temperature, grind setting, and pouring approach. Give the filter a rinse if your dripper instructions call for it, discard the rinse water, and keep the brewer stable on its vessel. Pour slowly enough to control the stream rather than splashing aggressively across the bed.

Taste the result before changing everything. If you want to experiment, change one variable at a time and repeat the brew. Consistency makes a useful comparison possible; purchasing a kettle is not itself an experiment. Our coffee temperature guide is a companion for choosing a starting recipe, while the French press versus pour-over guide helps if you are still choosing a brewing method.

Tea and everyday care

For tea, heat plain water in the kettle and steep the leaves in a separate cup or teapot with an infuser. Follow your tea packet’s temperature and time first. The Stagg’s controlled spout is convenient for careful pouring, but it can be slower when filling a large pot. You do not need a coffee dripper to make tea.

Keep the base dry, follow the current manual for cleaning and descaling, and never treat the electrical base like washable cookware. Our recommendation is to view care as part of the purchase: if your water leaves frequent mineral deposits, plan for the cleaning routine before spending more on finish options. Find the current Fellow Pro care guides.

Verdict and ordering checklist

  • Pros: controlled gooseneck pouring, adjustable temperature, a timer, and hold settings fit a repeatable manual-coffee routine.
  • Limitations: smaller capacity, premium cost, slower pouring for large pots, and no app-based remote control.

Confirm the Pro model, US electrical version, color, seller, and return terms. Measure the counter space you intend to use and check that the cord placement works safely. Choose Stagg EKG Pro when pour-over is the central task; choose a wider-spout kettle when fast everyday water service matters more.
